The Roman Empire began around 753 BC and lasted over a millennium. It acquired territories in Europe, Northern Africa, and Western Asia and was at one time the center of the known world.
Believe it or not, Rome today still has a huge influence around the world. It is the headquarters of the Vatican which is a religious institution with over a billion followers. The followers are known as Roman Catholics. Additionally, Ancient Rome is also a general model for many of today’s governments. Today many countries around the world have branches of government that eliminate absolute power to one person. As one goes through the timelines, they can see that Ancient Romans were terrified of giving their emperors absolute power due to corruption. We can see that Rome left a lacy of culture and practices used by the modern world today.
